iOS5 is rockin’ some serious updates. Over-the-air syncing, volume button shutter control, jailbreak-esque notifications, and a boatload of others. One update that got overlooked, perhaps because it’s tucked away in the Settings menu, is text shortcuts.
Basically, it’s an iOS version of TextExpander (which brings the total number of apps rendered obsolete by iOS 5 to eight). The feature allows you to create shortcuts for phrases (e.g. BTW = by the way). It’s pretty cool and dead simple to use. Have a look.
Head over to Settings -> General -> Keyboard and scroll down to Add New Shortcut…

Create a shortcut. If you’re stuck take a look at these examples, and if you can’t spell you can use the global iOS dictionary.

Use it in w/e app you want. And the iPhone will suggest the phrase as a replacement for your shortcut.

Cool huh? If you’re running iOS5 and create a shortcut share it in action by leaving a screenshot below.
If you have anything to add leave it below or send me an e-mail at TiTy@y2kemo.com.
