How-To: Fix Personal Hotspot in iOS 5

Published on November 14, 2011 by

personal hotspot screenshotI up and paid for tethering when iOS 4.3 was released. Frankly, I was tired of having to re-jailbreak my iPhone every time there was an update just so I could use MiWi.

The other day I updated to iOS 5 and immediately noticed my Personal Hotspot menu had vanished. Since I was headed out of town soon I needed to figure out what the issue was and fix it. I looked high and low. Then it dawned on me what to do.

If you’re paying for the iPhone’s Personal Hotspot feature and saw this after updating to iOS 5 you should proceed to the next step. If not, you should probably go do something else.

iOS settings screen

Settings –> General –> Reset –> Reset Network Settings

Reset iPhone network settings

The go to Settings –> General –> Network –> Personal Hotspot. Tap in, turn the feature on and off, then go back to the Settings menu.

Toggle personal hotspot in Network settings

Voila! Personal Hotspot is back!
