Every four years in November the citizens of the U.S. have to elect one of two candidates as the new or renewed President. This year the elephants nominated Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, and the donkeys stuck with Barack Obama and Joe Biden. I don’t remember being a part of any nomination conversation, but this is what I’m left with. So now what?

Educate yourself on the candidates. On their positions on topics that matter to you and to the country at large. Then on November 6, hit up your local voting station and cast your ballot.

Top 7: Reasons I hate Daylight Saving Time

Every March, Americans spring their clocks forward one hour, marking the beginning of Daylight Saving Time (DST). This year it begins on March 11 at 2 AM. A day I was hoping to stay out late and party to celebrate my birthday, but because I lose an hour I don’t see the point.

Anyway, DST has nothing to do with nature, and everything to do with the government. The original idea behind DST was to reduce the amount of fuel being used by Americans and increase the amount available to the military fighting a World War.

Over the years I’ve come to loathe the time change. While my list is much longer (and much less funny) than what I’m presenting you, these are my top 7 reasons why I hate Daylight Saving Time.

Top 7: Things New Parents Need

top 7 baby thingsWhen my wife and I found out she was pregnant with our son she immediately started making a list of things that we needed to buy (as in on the way home from el médico).

When it came time to register at Babies ‘R Us that list came in handy (understatement). And when we had bebeJosito we found out what stuff on that list we needed and what stuff we could’ve lived without.

I’m not talking about diapers, wipes, or onesies. Those are a given.  I’m talking about the little, less obvious things that are necessary to get you through the first year.

Top 7: Things to be thankful for in 2011

indians and pilgrims give thanks to 7Welcome to my weekly post RE: 7 things I’m pondering, I’ve read, or that I just want to write about. It’s basically a place for me to write more stupid **** for you to read.

There are many holidays but none as fattening and ironic as Thanksgiving. While the true origins are a little hazy, Americans (myself included) bask in our European ancestors’ slaughtering of Native Americans. And we do so by inviting friends and family to the table, cooking ridiculous amounts of food, and saying a prayer of thanks prior to our gluttonous feast. Here’s what I’m praying for:
