UnTextMe: When Text Attacks

the Blob movie posterIn college I got to see classic movies like Psycho, Rebel Without a Cause, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and The Blob as they were meant to be seen, on the big screen.

Of the lot that I saw Psycho and Invasion were my top two and The Blob was definitely numero tres. Not just because of the movie and its lone star, Steve McQueen, but for the movie trailer that lured folks into the theater.

A Runner’s Addiction

y2kemo runningIn my mid-teens and early twenties I was a ridiculously active person who happened to also be a pretty regular smoker. Eventually I put 2 and 2 together and replaced cigarettes with chewing tobacco so I could stay active without giving up the “benefits” of nicotine.

Two weeks ago, after almost 20 years of daily use, I reworked my math and decided to call it quits 4realz.

God is a Metaphor

Michelangelo's creation ET momentI tend not to touch the topic of religion for a multitude of reasons. Today, thanks to a preachy fella I encountered the other day, I’m making an exception. I was at the local petrol station the other day when a 90s station wagon rolled up beside me with two well-dressed people in it.

As soon as I committed to pumping gas one of them came over to me, handed me a pamphlet, and struck up a conversation. “Do you believe in God?” segued to “God is great” and then remarkably “You may want to question which side you’re on.”

Stuffed Shells Recipe: Spinach and Ricotta

cooked stuffed shellMy sister and her family came over the other day to watch the Bears game (OK, and to celebrate her birthday). Instead of the usual breakfast-for-lunch menu my wife suggested we make something a little tastier. After spouting menu suggestions like guesses in a game of Pictionary we agreed on a stuffed shells recipe with spinach and ricotta.

Why? Because my sister is a vegetarian who likes lasagna. I thought…I know, but this stuffed shells recipe gives you all the lasagna flavor without the lasagna effort. And if you trust me enough to make ‘em I’ll show you what to do.
