Top 7: App-killing features built in to iOS 5

Top 7 App SniperWelcome back to my sometimes weekly post RE: 7 things I’m pondering, I’ve read, or that I just want to write about. It’s basically a place for me to write more sh** for you to read.

Yesterday was a huge day for the iDouche. At Apple’s WWDC 2011 keynote Steve Jobs & Co. announced, among other things, the new iOS 5. Chock full of features it will undoubtedly be a hit amongst fans. On the flip side, it’s gonna be a major pain in the ace for app developers and jailbreakers because iOS 5 comes loaded with features that will render many bread-and-butter apps obsolete.

Five things about the Nook

nook colorA while back I wrote a post about how much I love to read. Seriously, I love the smell of a new book. Some people like the smell of grass, rain, or dirt after it rains (which I think smells like worms, even though worms don’t exactly have a scent). I like the smell of bound paper.

For Christmas I got a bookshelf, and recently I finally got around to putting it together. It didn’t take long for my nine, yes nine boxes of books to fill the five shelves. When I ran out of room I had to resort to using my cube organizer to store the overflow. And when that filled up I’ve just started laying books wherever I can.

You see, I don’t always read books straight through. I start and stop all the time. So, at any given time I have at least three books on the nightstand or next to the recliner or sofa or some place that can hold a book. At the rate I was going, my whole cat room/reading room was going to be just book shelves. I needed a solution that didn’t include not reading. I remembered a post y2kemo wrote on e-readers. That’s when I got the idea to splurge.

Google Plus 1Back in January 2011, Google unveiled their new +1 button. The button is meant to get people sharing things with their friends, contacts, and whoever else they communicate with on the Web.

The push is all part of Larry Page’s social strategy (the one that determines 25% of Google employees’ annual bonus). Make no mistake, Google is trying their hardest to compete with the likes of Reddit, Digg, StumbleUpon, Facebook, and even Twitter. Their latest creation may do just that. But how do you get in on the action? Well, if you’re a self-hosted WordPress blogger I’ve got your answer.

Dumbfounders

Man saying Dude, WTF?Each day I wake up wondering when I stop and ask myself, “Dude, WTF?” Will it be at the grocery store when an old lady whips out her binded catalog of coupons? At the airport security checkpoint behind a guy with a year’s worth of laundry quarters? Or stopped at a construction zone as three dudes paint shcool in the middle of the road? Who knows? One thing is for sure, I will encounter dumbfounders.

Makes me wonder what a visitor from another planet might think if they visited our planet in search of intelligent life.
